Abstract

Secondary title: Peasant revolts at the Čušperk castle as reflected in the Slovene historical novel
Secondary abstract: The thesis focuses on the historical novels Ljudska osveta by Fran Jaklič – Podgoričan and Uporniki by Ivan Lah. I present the circumstances of peasant revolts in Slovenia and at the Čušperk castle, then I theoretically define the term historical novel and present the life and work of both writers with emphasis on their involvement in the Dolenjska region, which played a key role in choosing Čušperk and its surroundings as the setting. At the core of the thesis is a comparative analysis, where I consider the main elements of both novels. In conclusion, I note that the writers were not so innovative that they could be counted among those who laid the foundations of Slovene literature, but nevertheless they earn appropriately attention for their thematization of local history of Čušperk and its surroundings, as they helped to establish continuity of historical novel as one of constitutive genres of Slovene literature.
