Secondary abstract: | Modern automobiles can be seen as a set of connected Internet of Things devices, that communicate intensively while driving. Standard internet protocols are often not fit for this scenario. Research the suitability of the MQTT protocol for automotive purposes. First provide an overview of the inner-workings of MQTT and the specifics of automotive communication, then focus on the security mechanisms of the protocol and its potential vulnerabilities. Specify some common use cases of MQTT in automobiles as well as the possible consequences of security flaws, and also suggest some good security practices. Execute and discuss the possible exploits. |
