Abstract

Secondary title: Genetic and non-genetic inheritance
Secondary abstract: The concept of inheritance has been expanded to include not only the transmission of genes, but also the transmission of non-genetic information that is inherited not only vertically between generations, but also horizontally between conspecifics. Each generation inherits both genetic information and non-genetic factors from its parents, which include epigenetic factors, microbiota, ecological changes, and behaviour. Both genetic and non-genetic factors contribute to phenotypic resemblance between individuals, parents and offspring and contribute to phenotypic stability across generations. If we consider the non-genetic factors, we could also improve animal husbandry and welfare.
