Abstract

Secondary abstract: The bachelor's thesis titled Using puppets in the promotion of the development of social skills - teaching tolerance and acceptance of difference is a practical thesis based on project work. In the theoretical part, we presented the general characteristics of the puppet, its impact on the child's development, the importance of using the puppet in the preschool period, and the connection of the puppet in the formation of social skills. In the practical part of the thesis, we carried out a project that lasted for 4 weeks in a group of children (n = 19) aged from 4 to 6 years intending to introduce children to the difference around us in a playful and instructive way in the preschool period already. The results of the project work showed the progress of all children in the group in showing compassion, kindness, and inclusion of all children in the game. The use of puppets also improved their concentration and attention. Significant progress was evident in the a with special needs who, for the first time, began to actively participate verbally in social games and establish eye contact, and in a child immigrant who began to speak during the project work and became engaged in joint activities. The children in the group became more tolerant and more active in showing acceptance of the differences, which was especially noticeable during their daily routine and spontaneous activities. The results suggest that the use of puppets in promoting the development of social skills is an appropriate method of work which is important for the work of professional workers in kindergarten.
