Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂimportance and influence of Slovene language courses for foreigners on their integration into Slovene society
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis deals with the connection between Slovene language courses for foreigners and the integration of foreigners from so-called third countries, emphasizing the importance of the linguistic dimension of integration, which is crucial for achieving the sovereignty of foreigners and their independence within the host society. The purpose of the thesis is to present the unique life stories of foreigners who immigrated to Slovenia, their experiences with the course of Slovene as a second and foreign language, to address their challenges when immigrating, and to identify their intentions to settle in Slovenia. An additional aspect and the possibility of a deeper insight into the topic are provided by the views of teachers of Slovene as a second and foreign language, who reveal a view from the perspective of a Slovenian citizen and one who teaches, as opposed to one who is taught. Their testimonies complement the statements of immigrants and thus offer a comprehensive understanding of the importance of Slovene language courses, enable a critical evaluation of free access to courses and present the impact of participants' heterogeneity on the learning process and other challenges involved in teaching foreigners.
