magistrsko delo

Abstract

Secondary title: Janez osredkar's musical-theoretical and compositional work
Secondary abstract: Janez Osredkar is one of the most established Slovenian music theorists. His publications of Music Theory textbook: Harmony I, Harmony II and Counterpoint are the fundamentals of teaching Music Theory at high schools and the Academy of Music. In spite of his primary goal of becoming an organist and a composer, after the study of organs and composition events led him into teaching. This was also how he contributed a lot to designing syllabuses in the field of music. Osredkar's composer's opus is less known to the wider public, though no less important. It ranges from chamber and choral music to compositions for children and youth, with his most known children's opera being Hansel and Gretel for solo, choir and orchestra. This impressive piece of music is a rare pearl in Slovenian children's opera repertoire. With an arrangement for piano it could be introduced to primary school pupils and singers, who could perform it in a logistically simpler way within the "Music Project" extra-curricular activity. Furthermore, it could sistematically be taught at school choir lessons or the opera could be presented and performed within wider primary school programme.
