Abstract

Časovno merjeni test vstani in pojdi (angl.

Secondary title: Concurrent validity of Timed up and go test and L-test for elderly
Secondary abstract: The Timed Up and Go Test (TUG) is a functional test that assesses mobility and balance. The L-Test, its modification, is longer (20 m) and has more turns (three). The aim of the study was to determine the concurrent validity of the TUG and the L-Test in three groups of elderly. Methods: 57 persons participated in the study, the mean age was 76.3 (±10.4) years. They were divided into three groups: older adults living in the community and two groups of older adults living in the nursing home, namely those who needed walking aids and those who did not. The inter-test ratios for each person and Spearman correlation coefficient (rS) were calculated. Results: The time required to complete the TUG and L-Tests differed significantly between the three groups (p<0.001). The correlation between the TUG and the L-Test was excellent (rS=0.980) for the whole sample and also for each individual group (rS=0.89 - 0.93). The ratio of the time required to perform both tests was 2.3 (±0.2) and did not differ between the groups. Conclusion: the TUG and the L-Test have excelent concurrent validity for the three groups. However, the same ratio between the tests in all three groups suggests that a longer distance and more turns in the elderly using devices did affect the outcomes.
