Abstract

Secondary title: Experiencing the coronavirus pandemic and remote learning in special needs children
Secondary abstract: The new coronavirus pandemic has been one of the big changes in our lives, especially in the lives of children. The purpose of the master's thesis was to find out how children with special needs experienced the coronavirus pandemic and how they felt during distance education and if there are statistically significant differences according to gender, age and group of special needs. The data were collected through questionnaires, which were distributed among children with special needs aged 9 to 15. The results of the research showed that children had both negative and positive emotions during distance education. It is encouraging that the children did not experience fear during this time and were given enough information about what was going on and why we were at home. One of the positive findings of our research is that children largely followed measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. On average, children prefer school lessons to distance education, as they missed their classmates the most, but almost half of all respondents never felt lonely during distance learning. We further found that there are statistically significant differences in certain elements of the pandemic experience and distance education, depending on gender, age, and special needs group.
