Abstract

The analysis focuses on the realization of the contemporary dialectal speech of North-Eastern Slovenia in the film Petelinji zajtrk (Rooster's Breakfast, 2007), based on the literary work of the same name by Feri Lainšček (1999), which was written in Standard Literary Slovene. The article also discusses the issue of the translation of the dialect speech with intralingual/monolingual (in this case, Slovenian) subtitling in Standard Literary Slovene, for those who do not understand the dialect, and (at least in part) for the hard of hearing and the deaf.
