Abstract

Diplomsko delo zajema prikaz preteklega in sedanjega gospodarjenja s populacijo divjega prašiča v zahodni Sloveniji.

Secondary title: Wild boar (Sus scrofa L.) in West Slovenia with damage in agriculture
Secondary abstract: The thesis presents the management of wild boar population in West Slovenia inthe past and at the present time. We looked at possible reasons for growth of population after the year 1970 and increased damage on agricultural crops. It has been established that the main reason for this condition is mainly due to overgrowing of cultivated areas and therefore an improvement in natural habitat of wild boar. Another reason is the additional feeding of the animals in the winter time with the establishment of population area management. Within the thesis we carried out a poll which showed some disunity in estimation of the damage caused by boars. Each hunting family deals with settlement problems and valuation of damage in its own way as suits them most. Some families are more successful as they work in agreement with land owners others are less effective which sometimes leads to legal proceedings.
