protislovnost vključevanja in izključevanja
Abstract

From the past for the future in society and social sciences: contradictoriness of inclusion and exclusion |
Secondary abstract: |
At the 40th anniversary of the journal Teorija in praksa the author presents a retrospective evaluation of activities in the fields of sociology, political science and communication studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in the context of social and political changes of that period. The author leans the analysis on his theoretical interpretation of the long-term developmental processes and attempts to reveal (dis)continuities related to two different political systems, former Yugoslavia and Slovenia. He rejects the postmodernist understanding of the end of all regularities, of predictibility and of "grand narratives". At the same time he introduces developmental paradigm in a sense of polarisation and convergence of (smaller and smaller) parts and (broader and broader) totality: and especially as individualisation and globalisation. Both are confronted with ecological limits of growth, consequently indicating a return to the paradigm of the closed system. The author leans his analysis on temporal, territorial, hierarchical and functional (sectorial, disciplinarian) dimensions. He critically reveals a mental entrapment in "territorial trap" and different forms of institutional and territorial inbreeding in social sciences and society. He puts the process of democratisation and strengthening civil society into a broader context of social restructuring and summarizes the so far existing findings about the transition from majoritarian to consensual (consociational) democracy, published in the journal and elsewhere. Universalisation is taken into account as de-legitimisation of (majoritarian) democracy and at the same time as a basis of strengthening the power of individual and world society. Special attention is given to the networking, which is becoming an infrastructure of global society. New information-communication technology enables change of the role of professionalization; instead of strengthening the monopoly (exclusion) it can be a starting point tor societalization of education and research. The author also points out the future of (Slovenian) nation as a form of selective identity in the context of world networking. |
