Abstract

Let ▫$\mathbb{D}$▫ be an arbitrary division ring and ▫$M_n(\mathbb{D})$▫ the multiplicative semigroup of all ▫$n \times n$▫ matrices over ▫$\mathbb{D}$▫. We study non-degenerate, injective homomorphisms from ▫$M_2(\mathbb{D})$▫ to ▫$M_4(\mathbb{D})$▫. In particular, we present a structural result for the case when ▫$\mathbb{D}$▫ is the ring of quaternions.
