Abstract

Secondary title: Dance motif in fine arts in the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century
Secondary abstract: In the master's thesis entitled "Dance Motif in Fine Arts in the Second Half of the 19th Century and the First Half of the 20th Century", we looked at dance as a motif in works of art. We focused on dance in general and how it appears in visual art. The motif was studied in the European area in a time frame from the second half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century. The motif we studied was interpreted in more detail based on selected authors. Our main assumption was that the chosen motif varies according to the historical as well as individual-psychological context in which the artwork was created. We wanted to investigate the influence that the developing art movements of the time had on the artists and their works, and how this was reflected in the representations of the dance motif. Furthermore, we were interested in the impact of individual's social life on the artworks. Moreover, we examined the purpose and function of works of art.
