Abstract

Pazniki so v dnevnem stiku z obsojenci.

Secondary title: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRISON OFFICERS AND PRISONERS
Secondary abstract: Honest and true relations between guards and convicts are of key importance for the life in prison. Convicts who serve the sentence are imprisoned for different reasons, mainly for minor legal offences. The majority of them continue with their criminal acts and for that reason, they keep on returning to the life behind the bars. There are also numerous convicts who are convicted of more severe legal offences and thus the prison represents their second home, where they can spend many years. In the prison, the convicts are arranged by different criteria, where the classification to the closed, opened, half-opened, specially secured department and the department with a stricter regime has the main role. On the basis of that, there are quite big differences in offering benefits and freedom to the individual convicts. The convicts have to be threated the same, regardless of the legal offences they were charged for, that is why it is important to have positive relations in the prison. We have to be aware that this is the population that is problematic by nature. The first impression the guards and the other staff does is very important. The guards are the ones who interact with the convicts on a daily basis. It probably seems that the main part of my final thesis stresses the guard, but I think it is reasonable to present the key factor of the life in prison. The thesis points out what is expected from the guards, what is their role in prison, what are the possibilities of the additional practice in the process of offering professional help to the convicts and what is most important for them, to maintain the relations by peaceful methods, by talking and using as little restraint towards the convicts as possible. I carefully examined that in my thesis. I believe that the values and the qualities of the guards, as well as their positive attitude and expertise contribute the most to the acceptable life in the prison.
