Abstract

Magistrsko delo z naslovom Portretna fotografija kot predmet manipulacij in temelj v umetniških praksah 20. stoletja skozi zgodovinski pregled medsebojnih vplivov portretne fotografije, razvoja fotografske tehnologije in vloge manipulacije v zgodnjih letih medija raziskuje pojavnost intermedijskih umetniških praks in umetniških intervencij v fotografiji. Magistrsko delo analizira razliko med likovno-manipulacijskimi in intermedijskimi odnosi in skladno s pojavom novih praks razlaga pojem umetniških intervencij. Nadalje analizira ustvarjalne procese pionirjev intermedijskega združevanja fotografije in drugih medijev Arnulfa Rainerja, Gerharda Richterja in Sigmarja Polkeja. Skozi njihove umetniške prakse naloga raziskuje vlogo posameznega medija, njegove izrazne (z)možnosti in doprinos k celotni podobi umetniških del. Serija del After Face Farces (Po obraznih farsah), izdelana v praktičnem delu magistrskega dela in zasnovana kot hommage Rainerjevi seriji Face Farces (Obrazne farse), obravnava Rainerjeve ustvarjalne prakse in jih prenaša v lasten umetniški izraz.

Secondary title: Portratit Photography as a Means of Manipulation and as a Fundation for 20th Century Art Practices
Secondary abstract: This master's thesis, titled Portrait Photography as a Means of Manipulation and a Fundation for 20th Century Art Practices, studies the prevalence of intermedia art practices and art intervention in photography through a historical overview of reciprocal influences within portrait photography, the development of photographic technology and the role of manipulation in the medium's early years. The thesis analyses the difference between art manipulation and intermedia relationships, and defines the concept of art intervention within the framework of new emerging practices. Furthermore, it analyses artistic processes of Arnulf Rainer, Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke, artists who pioneered the intermedia movement/technique(s) by combining photography with other mediums. Through their artistic practices the thesis studies the role of each individual medium, its expressive ability and its contribution to the overall imagery of artworks. The practical part of the thesis consists of my own series of artworks After Face Farces, which is designed as an hommage to Rainer's series Face Farces; it examines Rainer's artistic practice and translates it into my own artistic expression.
