magistrsko delo
Abstract

Mental Health of Pupils and Including Mindfulness in Primary School Education |
Secondary abstract: |
In today's fast paced life, focusing on yourself and finding solutions for good mental health is very important. We live in a time where interactive communication technology is with us on every corner. Children are surrounded by this technology from an early age, and they encounter many stimuli, especially social networks with content not always appropriate for children. Most children usually imitate what they see - but as we mentioned, this is not always the best. With all of this, a child's personality can be lost, and watching ideals on social media can have a negative impact on child's self-esteem. It is important that children accept themselves, love themselves, and have a positive attitude towards life. This way they are be able to handle potential problems in their life. One way to achieve this is to practice mindfulness-promoting techniques. In the master's thesis, we were interested in how primary school teachers assess pupils' mental health, how teachers themselves are trained to identify mental disorders in pupils, whether they would include mindfulness in lessons, and whether they would attend trainings on the subject of anxiety and mindfulness. We received survey answers from 80 teachers who teach in the first grades of primary school. Surveyed teachers stated anxiety, poor concentration and attention disorder, behavioural disorders and learning difficulties as the most common mental disorders in pupils. The majority of teachers (80%) believe that mindfulness should be included in their lessons, and that this would have positive effects on pupils' mental health. About half of the teachers surveyed engage in mindfulness practices in their free time. The same teachers also stated that they have noticed many positive effects in themselves, better mental health, in short, general well-being. Given that the analysis of various scientific articles has shown that regular practice of mindfulness techniques has a huge positive effect on the physical and mental health of individuals, it would be good to devote more time to this skill. |
