Abstract

Secondary title: Estimation skills of preschool children
Secondary abstract: The bachelor thesis entitled Estimation Skills of Preschool Children consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces estimation and different types of estimation, namely (1) estimation in measurement, (2) estimation in number concepts, and (3) estimation in arithmetic operations. Each of the three types of estimation describes strategies that children encounter or might encounter in preschool and the first period of primary school. Along with each estimation, research findings from each area are listed. The empirical part includes the presentation of estimation exercises appropriate for preschool children. Estimation exercises on number concepts were conducted on the first three days, and estimation exercises on measurement were conducted on the following three days. It was found that the children’s estimation skills related to number concepts and measurement were well developed.
