Abstract

Secondary abstract: This diploma thesis connects the theory of group dynamics with practical examples of the development of a group over time. Theoretical definitions begin with the presentation of a group; we need to know the difference between a multitude of individuals and groups. This is followed by the development of a theory, which shows the gradual development of a group through specific phases or levels. Introduction of the first theory, was developed by Kurt Lewin, and other major authors in the field of group dynamics. Next we are introduced to the classification of theories of group dynamics; we cannot be familiar with each of these theories, since they number more than a hundred. The chapter concludes with one of the newer authors Ruth Cohn, who gives an interesting comprehensive theory which incorporates the individual as an independent person as well as a group to which it belongs, and themes that employ them. We continue with group processes, which defines the role of the individual in the group structure, group organization, relations, norms, group interaction, and ultimately team effort. Followed by the presentation of the socialization of the individual to the group, the group learning process and cognition, and learning and social skills. The group is not only a place of learning, it is also a source of social support. In conclusion, the theoretical part we present displays the differences between teams and groups that we connect with the learning process. Follows the methodological part of presentation: the development of the Group over a longer period. Through surveys and statistical analysis I am confirming or disaproveing the hypothesis. This thesis is concluded with a discussion of the results.
