Secondary abstract: | The extensive poetic oeuvres of Oton Župančič and Niko Grafenauer include poems for children which have been made a part of the school literary canon, and so in the 2018 school curriculum, the works of the two poets were included on the primary school required reading lists. This article focuses on the poems featuring the characters Ciciban and Pedenjped covered in literature lessons at key stage 2 (children aged 7 to 11). The frequency of their choice for reading and the ways in which these texts are examined in class is analysed, in particular, cross-curricular approaches to poetry. |
