Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂrole of music therapy in the physiotherapeutic treatment of people with alzheimer's dementia
Secondary abstract: Introduction and purpose: This thesis aims to review the available scientific literature to examine whether music is beneficial in the physiotherapeutic treatment of people with Alzheimer's dementia (AD) and if music therapy beneficently affects people with AD. Dementia is an increasingly common phenomenon among the elderly, which makes the importance of non-pharmacological approaches even greater. Methods: The methodology of the thesis is based on an overview of the scientific literature, which was searched using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Results: The findings suggest that music therapy has positive effects on the psychological and physical well-being of people with AD and that it helps to improve their quality of life. Usability: The thesis is useful for physiotherapists working in institutions with older people with dementia and for the staff involved in the treatment of older people with dementia. Limitations: exclusion and inclusion criteria, outdated articles, and a small sample size in the surveys that makes it difficult to generalise the results to the whole population.
