Abstract

Magistrsko delo Barbara Celjska – Vladarica Evrope v celoti obravnava potomko nekoč najbolj ozemeljsko dominantne slovenske rodbine Celjskih grofov, od 1436 Celjskih knezov.

Secondary abstract: The master thesis Barbara of Celje – The Sovereign of Europe discusses the descendant from one of once the most territorially-dominant noble Slovene family, The Counts of Celje, from 1436 also The Princes. Herman II and Ana Schaunberška’s youngest daughter Barbara was renowned as one of the most noteworthy women within the broader Central European region at the dawn of the 15th century, ambitiously and keenly provided by her father, and presumably from politically motivated reasons and on her father’s favour, married with much elder widower Sigismund, the King of Luxembourg, Hungary, Bohemian and the Emperor of Roman-German monarchy. Her sojourn on Slovene territory was probably as long as until her engagement, and she never got back to Celje-upon-Savinja again. Considerably endowed by properties in land as marital gifts, and titles of nobility by Sigismund, i.e. the Queen of Hungary, Bohemia, and the Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, no woman was wealthier than she and none could have matched with her for education and intelligence. Barbara’s governance and business affairs were later totally handed to her due to Sigismund’s frequent absences from the court, a self-confident and courageous sovereign of specific characteristics and wisdom, sorting out inconveniences most politically and diplomatically, issuing important documents, living and governing in the period of early diplomacy. Hence we understand her as the first female diplomat of the Slovene origin.
