Abstract

Secondary title: Calculation and visualization of the orientation of the visual-kinesthetic device for blind and visually impaired using inertial sensor and magnetometer
Secondary abstract: Visual-kinesthetics device meant to aid the blind and visually impaired is a long-term project we have started to aid the recipients in every-day orientation and spatial mobility. The device consists of two parts. The first part are the glasses worn on the users’ head. These allow for the setting of the field of vision and recognition of any obstacles in the immediate surroundings. The second part of the device is a belt worn on an abdominal part. This belt is connected to the glasses through wireless communications. The belt interprets the obstacles recognised by the glasses through vibration patterns. During the testing of the device in the specially designed testing grounds we have discovered that we do not have sufficient overview of the measurements and general operations of the device. We were forced to rely on the described feelings of the users which tended to be subjective in nature. We have implemented data capture, data saving and their visualisation in the Unity simulation environment. This allowed us to have a better oversight regarding the collected measurements and allowed for far simpler detection of malfunctions. Supplementary measurements have shown several not yet discovered flaws in the environment detection process. This offered us a better understanding of the workings of our device.
