Abstract

Secondary title: The use of film for interpretation of historical topics as a part of museum’s showcase
Secondary abstract: In the last few decades of rapid technological development film has become a very accessible medium. Among other ways it is widely used as a tool for presenting scientific content to a general audience. Museums play an important role in this context, as one of their main functions is to interpret scientific content. Film has been largely incorporated into museums’ showcase, both by being placed in actual exhibitions as well as distributing it online. Sharing films via the popular online site YouTube has enormous potential in reaching new audiences. Study of online film showcases of Slovenian museums has shown that Slovenian museums widely offer their content on YouTube – most typical are films that present a specific exhibition, recordings of talks or lectures and promotional films. Nonetheless it seems that there is still a lot of untapped potential of film as a medium and mainly its distribution online.
