Abstract

Material models of modern geopolymer concrete for structural analysis |
Secondary abstract: |
Geopolymer concretes are made from a mixture of sand, aggregate, binder and alkaline solution. Fly ash, slag or its mixture is most often used as a binder. In the production of geopolymer concrete, less energy is used and fewer greenhouse gases are released into the air than in the preparation of raw materials (Portland cement) for the production of conventional concrete. It has been proven that the mechanical and chemical properties of geopolymer concrete are similar or better than those of conventional concrete. Due to the good chemical properties, they could be used in the future in marine and coastal construction, sewage systems, as well as in fire protection. A similar response when testing the mechanical characteristics of geopolymer concrete samples compared to conventional concrete samples indicates the possibility of application in building structures. Therefore, the researchers developed material models that could be used in the future to obtain appropriate tables on the strength and deformation values of materials. The tables contain data for the calculation of an indispensable tool when dimensioning constructions, i.e. the material diagram. Response tests of simple constructions made of geopolymer concrete, for which we currently know the material diagram, show that constructions made of geopolymer concrete have a similar response to constructions made of conventional concrete, if a load is applied to them. We can conclude that for the dimensioning of structures made of geopolymeric concrete, the same procedures that are known for the dimensioning of structures made of conventional concrete could be used. For the further development of the material, it is necessary to prescribe recommendations for the production of mixed geopolymer concrete at the global level. |
