magistrsko delo

Abstract

V prvem, teoretičnem delu, smo predstavili pojem družine in vlogo staršev.

Secondary title: Parental involvement in their child's schoolwork before and during the covid-19 epidemic (distance learning)
Secondary abstract: It is a task of the family to bring up a child and prepare him/her for school. The child's entering the school does not signify that the mission of his/her parents has been completed and the school will take over the child's upbringing and education. It is of utmost importance that the parents remain involved in the educational process. The participation of parents became even more important at distance learning. Especially young children needed their parents' help with this kind of education. As distance learning is a new topic and a limited amount of research has been carried out, we have decided to explore the issue on a more detailed level. In the first, theoretical part we have presented the concept of the family and the role of the parents. Then we addressed the involvement of the parents in the child's education; we explored the impact thereof on the child in detail. We established that the parents can influence the development of cognitive and metacognitive skills. They also gain more insight into the child's schoolwork, thus influencing his/her educational achievement. For this reason, we also presented the concepts of learning performance and cooperation between the school and the home. Finally, we also presented the issue of distance learning, which in a way led to this Master thesis. In the second, empirical part we have presented the results of the survey. Our main findings are that the parents believe that they were more involved in the children's schoolwork during distance learning than before. In their opinion, they spent as much as 3 hours more for the child's schoolwork as compared to classical education. The most frequent difficulty that the parents faced was the coordination between their work requirements and the child's needs. Therefore, we can summarize that distance learning has brought about quite a few challenges, but the parents agreed that they consequently spent more quality time with their child.
