Abstract

Secondary title: Employee engagement for working from home and working at the company
Secondary abstract: This masters study discusses the comparison between working from home and working in the company, which was a highly discussed topic in the last two years especially because of the appearance of the covid-19 pandemic. Many medical measures caused that the employees, and especially the companies, faced different challenges and problems, which they did not encounter before. The master study is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part focuses on the presentation of the explored field. An analysis of the existing literature was carried out, both of domestic and foreign authors. The terms engagement and work from home have been thoroughly presented. In the empirical part you can find a survey, which is based on an overview of literature and previous researches, and a carried out study. The aim of my study was to figure out at which kind of work were the employees more engaged; is it work in the company or work from home. Included in the survey were only subjects, which did their work both from home and in the company. There were 88 responders, which completed the survey in its entirety. For performing the analysis, I used appropriate statistical methods, with the help of which we were able to answer the established research goals. The research shows, that in average there are no major differences in engagement between working from home and working in the company. It was also established that many different variables affect the level of engagement of the employees, in specific those with a higher level of education are more engaged then the ones with a lower level. The second interesting finding refers to the employee’s length of service. The employees with a longer length of service are in average less engaged at their work that the employees with a shorter length of service. The main conclusions of this study have shown that the level of engagement of an employee, who does his work from home or in the company, is comparable. It is more important, that the company provides or ensures the employee with good work conditions and by ensuring that, it elevates the employee’s level of engagement. The results of this study can be a support to companies with the decision if a form of work is appropriate for their employees or not. We recommend that each company provides their employees with different forms of work and then test, which form of work is most suitable for their employees. The best approach is an individual one, because the result can vary from one employee to the other.
