diplomsko delo
Abstract

Satisfaction of women with cosmetic apperance [!] of a scar after cesarean section |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Caesarean section is one of the most frequently performed operative interventions in the world. We know different techniques for closing the skin after caesarean section. The choice of the appropriate material for skin closure after a caesarean delivery as well as the care of the scar itself, is important, as it affects the final appearance and satisfaction with the cosmetic appearance of the scar. The appearance of a scar after a caesarean section is also influenced by the presence of complications in connection with the surgical wound. Purpose: The aim of the diploma work was to find out how Slovenian women are satisfied with the cosmetic appearance of the scar after a caesarean section. Methods: We used a questionnaire filled out by 1325 women who gave birth by caesarean section. Excel and SPSS were used for statistical data processing. Frequency, percentages, mean value and Kruskal-Wallis H test were determined. Results: We found that satisfaction with the cosmetic appearance of the scar is statistically significantly affected by the means for closing the wound (p = .000), not regularly lubricating the scar (p = .000) and complications of surgical wound healing (p = .000). Discussion and conclusion: Satisfaction with the cosmetic appearance of the scar is influenced both by the choice of skin closure agent and complications in the healing of the surgical wound. Contrary to our expectations, it was found that the vast majority of women do not lubricate the scar and that for them, lubrication of the scar does not affect their satisfaction with its cosmetic appearance. Considering that lubrication has a proven effect on the cosmetic appearance of scars, we think it is important that as health professionals we adequately inform and encourage women to take care of the scar after a caesarean section. |
