Secondary abstract: | The article discusses the issues of bilingualism and cross-culturalism as theyare revealed in the fate of the principle Romanesque heroes Bubi in Lojze Kovačič's novel Prišleki (Part 2) and Alex in the novel Le Testament français (Dreams of My Russian Summers) by Andrei Makine. In so doing, it seeks junctures and divergences in the two writers' acceptance and understanding of the "intermediate position" between two nations. Particular emphasis is placed on their reflection on the "second mother tongue" or the "old mother tongue" and their consequent seeking of an appropriate literary language. |
