Secondary abstract: | This paper gives a brief outline of some ideas how the concept of matter may develop in young children. First the development of "primitive" actions and schemes, and how these may relate to concept development in young childrenis discussed. Examples of possible primitive actions and schemes and related concepts are proposed. The paper also considers the distinction between extensive and intensive properties of object and how through experience with objects and materials children may develop the first prototypeof matter. |
