magistrsko delo
Abstract

Perception of Winston Churchill in Slovenian print between the Munich agreement and the invasion of Yugoslavia |
Secondary abstract: |
Winston Churchill, one of the central politicians of the 20th century, was born on 30 November 1874, in the golden Victorian era of the British Empire. He graduated from Sandhurst Military Academy and until 1900 worked as a soldier and war correspondent. State politics interested him throughout his childhood; therefore, after finishing his military service, he began building his political career. He achieved his first peak in 1915 by becoming Lord of Admiralty; however, after the loss at Dardanelles, fully accused of the failed operation, he had to resign. After losing the ministerial position, he returned to the military where he remained until May 1916. The end of the Great War brought a revival to his political career. Until 1929 Churchill held many significant ministerial positions. Then the Conservative Party lost the election, and Churchill, for a decade, lost his seat in the government. In the 1930s he consistently warned against Hitler's rise to power. Before the attack on Yugoslavia, he became known in the Slovenian print not only as a respected and experienced politician but also as Hitler's greatest enemy. He reached the peak of his career on 10 May 1941, becoming Prime Minister of United Kingdom. He successfully led his country, winning the Second World War; however, he resigned in 1945. He again took up the position of Prime Minister in 1951, held it until 1955 and almost until his death in 1965 remained a member of parliament in the House of Commons. |
