diplomsko delo

Abstract

Secondary title: Woman creatures in the slavic mythology
Secondary abstract: The thesis is about a part of the rich Slavic mythology and the various female mythological creatures, which are worshipped by the Slavs. The aim of the thesis is to examine a part of the Slavic mythology. The knowledge of the original religion of the Slavs is poor, more is known about the Roman or Greek mythology. The thesis focuses on the presentation of female characters in the Slavic religion and shows their influence on the Slavic daily life. Besides the goddesses there were a lot of other female mythological creatures worshipped by the Slavs, and some of them were worshipped even more than the goddesses themselves. Admittedly, men in the old civilization were the ones who provided the family with food, but the men would hardly have survived, and it would have been even harder to take care of their families without the aid of women. Old nations, among them the Slavs, were well aware of that and this knowledge can be seen in their worship of female characters that are more frequently associated with the occurrence or the beginning of the new as well as with fertility. Contrary to the majority of the researchers, who favor the gods and put less importance on the goddesses, this thesis presents that the goddesses had a major impact on the people and that there was not only one goddess, as it is often presented. The Slavs had more goddesses and each of them covered an important area of everyday life.
