Abstract

Secondary title: VEGETARIANISM AND CHILDREN'S LOCOMOTOR ACTIVITIES
Secondary abstract: The content of the degree paper is mainly concentrated on vegetarianism and the physical activities in children and is divided into two parts. The theoretical part presents the importance of a healthy diet in the preschool period, the concept of vegetarianism and the causes for it, vegetarianism in children and the motor development of a child in the preschool period. The empirical part presents the results of a research made among parents with preschool children at the ages of 1 to 6. The purpose of the research was to find out what sort of vegetarian diet prevails in parents of preschool children, whether they give this type of food to their children, who or what influenced their decision the most, what are the reasons for vegetarianism, how the diet or vegetarian parents are perceived by the family and their surroundings, whether vegetarian parents do sports on a regular basis and whether they include their children into sport activities. The findings showed that the majority of interviewed parents are lactovegetarians who nourish their preschool children with the same type of food. In majority of the cases their decision was influenced by their inner feelings. The nature of the prevailing reasons for having chosen vegetarianism were ethical, being aware that other beings have feelings, similar to ours, as well. The family of vegetarian parents and their surroundings accept their dietary manners well in most cases. The results of the research show that most vegetarian parents regularly do sports and are physically active together with their child. Parents are aware of the importance of the child's physical activity. Quite some children participate in organised sport activities. Mostly, parents involve their children in sports due to the improvement of the child's motor abilities.
