Abstract

Secondary title: Pre-School teachers' responses to children's distress in kindergarten
Secondary abstract: Human survival depends on emotions. Children experience a wide variety of emotions on a daily basis, anddistress also plays a part in their daily lives. It is necessary to help the children understand what they are experiencing, talk about their feelings, and emphasize that we are here for them. The purpose of the master's thesis was to research how educators respond to the distress of preschool children. We were mainly interested in how the educators assess their ability of unconditional acceptance and what preventive approaches they use in the event of possible contact with a child in the group. In the empirical part, we conducted qualitative research on a purposeful sample of five educators striving for the well-being of children experiencing contact. Based on the research results, we concluded that educators are aware of their responsibility toresolve children's distress and respond to it cautiously and professionally. Educators perceive that children's hardships mostly derive from the primary family, and children often experience distress during the introductory period when entering the nursery.
