Abstract

Preverjali smo odnos med nudenjem in prejemanjem različnih vrst socialne opore (instrumentalna, informacijska, emocionalna opora in druženje) v povezavi z delovno zavzetostjo.

Secondary title: Use of sociometric analysis in organizations
Secondary abstract: We applied a sociometric test to analyze the social relations between employees in five teams of a Slovenian pharmaceutical company (N = 46). The main purpose of the research was to transfer and use the method, which was previously mainly used in the school environment, in an organization and determine whether the test is a useful tool in organizations as well. We checked the relationship between giving and receiving different types of social support (instrumental, informational, emotional support and companionship) in connection to work engagement, between which we did not find a significant connection. The main finding of the study was that the subjective perception of the received support is significantly different than the actual support received. Individuals who subjectively perceived more recieved social support reported higher work engagement, while the relationship between recipients of actual social support and work engagement did not prove to be statistically significant. We also conducted a focus group with the employees, where they gave honest feedback about their experience, which we summarized in the form of recommendations for conducting a sociometric test in organizations. It can provide a comprehensive and contextually appropriate representation of relationships within the group in a time-efficient way and enable the identification of their causes and consequences in the workplace, which is why we concluded that it could serve as a useful method for data triangulation within organizations.
