Abstract

Secondary title: Teachers' views on the impact of covid-19 epidemic on the social developement of pupils in elementary education (grades 1-5)
Secondary abstract: Social development is an important segment of each individual, which contributes to the establishment of new interactions and competences that lead to the formation of a person’s identity. With successful development of social competences, children gain self- confidence and build quality interpersonal relationships, which are essential for functioning in society. The development of social competences depends on the individual's character traits as well as on the environment in which he or she lives and performs important life functions. The aim of the master’s thesis was to investigate teachers' perspectives on the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the social development of pupils at the primary level with a questionnaire in a sample of 184 primary school teachers in Slovenia. We were interested in how, according to the teachers, this development had been affected by the educational measures introduced to prevent the spread of the virus and in which area of social development these measures had had the greatest impact. Through quantitative data processing, we found that teachers felt that the entire epidemic period and the associated measures had a strong impact on the social development of the individual. The most significant impacts were perceived by teachers in the area of pupils' communication and expression, an increase in the number of conflict situations, difficulties in resolving them, reduced independence and socialisation.
