Abstract

Secondary title: Analysis of the students in the second triennium and their familiarity with environmental issues related to global warming
Secondary abstract: The master's degree thesis, entitled the Analysis of the students in the second triennium and their familiarity with environmental issues related to global warming, presents the way the students in the second triennium see global warming. The theoretical part includes the explanation of the concept of global warming, what causes it, what the consequences are, how it can be reduced, and why this would benefit us all. Moreover, it describes where and how the contents regarding the environment are included in the curriculum of the second triennium, and how the schools are striving to educate their students to behave more environmentally-friendly. The purpose of the empiric part of the thesis is to determine the views the students of the second triennium have on the benefits of various measures to minimize the global warming, and to describe their willingness to, in one way or the other, help reduce environmental pollution and with it global warming. The research also touched upon gender and grade differences, and different locations of schools regarding this matter. According to Australian research from year 2009 a data collection method with grading scales and 44 statements was used: 20 from the field of awareness about different measures to reduce global warming, 20 from the field of willingness to take steps for a cleaner environment, and lastly, 4 questions with gradually escalated answers regarding the students' sensitivity about global warming. The research included 986 students of twelve schools from eleven different regions in Slovenia. It was determined that the students ranked the willingness higher than they did the benefits of measures to reduce global warming. Higher marks were mostly given by the girls and students from city schools, whereas the statistically distinctive differences regarding the grades were different, depending on the statements.
