Abstract

Secondary title: Didactic games in the subject social studies for the selected content set People in space
Secondary abstract: Lessons within the subject of social studies are based on the constructivist theory of learning and teaching, which means that they focus on the active role of the student during the lesson and his prior knowledge. Constructivism is an approach that enables students to form their own knowledge, which they reflect on and discuss, through their own activities in the classroom. When planning lessons, the teacher must use methods that will help students to stimulate their mental activity and independence. Experiential learning, the most prominent representative of which is David Kolb, enables students to gain real-world experience through their activity in the classroom. Consequently, students connect the knowledge they have gained in the classroom with real-life situations. Experiential learning is supported by various methods, among others also a didactic game. A didactic game is a game that has predetermined goals and, at the same time, contains all the features of a game. The purpose of the master's thesis was to plan, design, and produce didactic games for the People in the Space section. The didactic games are designed in a way that teachers can use them in social studies lessons and, thus, enable students to fully engage in the lessons. The contents that we included in the didactic games are Spatial Orientation and Cartography and Slovenia - Location and Characteristics. The didactic games we planned have written objectives, content, the stage of the lesson, tools for making the didactic game, instructions for use, and a guide for teachers. We divided the objectives of each didactic game into global, staged, and operational. At the end of each game, we added a photo of the created didactic game.
