magistrsko delo
Abstract

Emotional Support Provided by Counsellors to Teachers |
Secondary abstract: |
Emotional support provides social and emotional empowerment for teaching staff to cope with stress in the work environment. The master thesis aims to identify the areas and the frequency of counselors' and teachers' involvement in pedagogical work. It also aimed to find out in which situations teachers seek emotional support from counselors and in which situations they particularly need this support. In the theoretical part, we focused on understanding social and emotional support. First, we looked in detail at how emotions are formed, with the help of various authors; we looked at emotional intelligence, which is increasingly present and crucial in the workplace, and highlighted why its development is critical for individuals. In the empirical part, we present the results of an online questionnaire survey on a sample of 204 primary and secondary school teachers in the Podravska region of Slovenia. The results show that teachers and counselors are most cooperative concerning pupils with special needs and learning difficulties, concerning educational guidelines for pupils, achieving a positive classroom climate and culture, and helping to cooperate with parents. We found that teachers and counselors rarely collaborate (61.8 %) concerning emotional support in stressful situations. In a gender-specific comparison of the frequency of collaboration on emotional support, we found that female teachers collaborated more frequently with counselors than male teachers (▫$x^2 = 6.878$▫, p = 0.032). Next, we investigated which situations and circumstances when teachers sought emotional support from counselors. Teachers stated they would need more help from counselors when working with pupils on educational issues, with pupils with special needs, and in classroom lessons. They also stressed that they needed more emotional support in the form of talks, advice, expert opinion, and understanding. |
