magistrsko delo

Sekundarni naslov: Secondary trauma factors of school counsellors
Sekundarni povzetek: The employees in school counsellor service face traumatized students/pupils during their work on a daily basis. They offer them support and various interventions and consequently fit in the group of people who are prone to develop secondary traumatic stress the most. It is a poorly researched phenomenon with the mentioned profession, the symptoms of which almost perfectly fit those of posttraumatic stress disorder apart from the fact that they are connected with the experience of another, primarily traumatized person. Therefore, the aim of this dissertation was to research the prevalence of secondary trauma of school counsellors in Slovenia and identify the factors, which anticipate it. With a view to getting a deeper insight into the examined problem, the combination of quantitative and qualitative research, was used. With the latter, apart from the mentioned, we researched the way, how school counsellors experience the work with students/pupils, who have been exposed to trauma as well as how they experience the examined factors in practice. Finally, we researched if the reports of school counsellors in interviews coincide with the collected data. It was concluded that the phenomenon is not spread in Slovenia to such an extent. On the other hand, the contact with individuals exposed to trauma, supervision, harmony between professional and private life, self-care and self-efficacy were identified as statistically important factors, which anticipate the level of secondary traumatic stress with the employees.
