Abstract

The Outline of Rules for the New Slovene Normative Guide (1981) abolishes the difference between pronunciation and spelling in acronyms. In spelling, this means that a hyphen is used between the acronym written in capital letters and the ending written in lower case letters. An option of spelling without a hyphen is also provided for (AVNOJ, AVNOJ-a or AVNOJA). In the word formation section, the Outline of Rules discusses compounds from subordinate phrases, the first part of which is a capital letter (or several capital letters). A hyphen is provided between the components but the non-hyphenated option is also allowed (TV-drama, TV drama). The Slovene Normative Guide 2001 does not allow spelling variants and prescribes only a hyphenated spelling both in the rules section and in the dictionary section. |
