Abstract

Secondary title: Fundamental ball movement skills of preschool children in the second age period
Secondary abstract: In my B.A. paper, we selected 7 ball skills and determined at what age the child masters them. From a fundamental motor skills point of view, ball skills include throwing, hitting and catching which were tested with the following tasks: hitting the ball with a club using both hands, hitting the ball in place, catching the ball, kicking the ball, over-and-underhand throwing. 154 preschool children between the ages of 3 and 6 participated in the study after signed consent from their parents (28 children aged 3, 17 aged 3,5, 17 aged 4, 19 aged 4,5, 25 aged 5 and 35 aged 6). A standardized scoring protocol from TGMD-3 was used to test ball skills. The children were recorded while performing the tasks. Data show that most children have not yet achieved full mastery of selected ball skills in the first three years of their lives. However, over the next three years, they gradually improve and acquire a variety of ball skills. In the end, most children achieve mastery of these selected skills.
