Abstract

Secondary title: Including children with autism in regular elementary schools
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis is focused on children with autism spectrum disorder in mainstream elementary schools. The theoretical part describes chapters on the autism spectrum disorder, education of children with special needs, inclusive education, school counseling and social work in schools. In the empirical part, through qualitative research, I obtained the perspectives and experiences of social workers with the inclusion of children with autism spectrum disorder in mainstream elementary schools. The results obtained from interviews with social workers in mainstream elementary schools suggest the important role of school social workers. They provide various forms of support and assistance to children with autism spectrum disorder, with their work primarily focused on individualized treatment of each child. They also play an important role in collaborating with parents. The majority of social workers support the inclusion of children with autism spectrum disorder in mainstream elementary schools. However, the results also suggest the need for additional systemic adjustments for children with autism spectrum disorder in mainstream elementary schools. In conclusion, suggestions that could make schooling more accommondating for children with autism spectrum disorder are presented. These suggestions are based on the results of the research.
