Abstract

Secondary abstract: The paper highlights the interdisciplinary elements in the response of Slovene readers to the novel For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway. It discusses how the reception by readers reflects the integration of literary fable and historical fact, as well as investigating the (socio-specific) elements of the social reality which have a direct impact on the response of literary conscious young Slovene readers. It searches for the elements of the reading response which reflect that young readers, by linking various scientific disciplines, for example the integration of historical fact with sociological and psychological elements in the story, recognise values in the textual world, which allow today's reader to evaluate events in the Spanish Civil War and, indirectly, in Slovene history.
