Abstract

Secondary title: Ljubljana Town Hall in Late Middles Ages
Secondary abstract: The thesis examines the architectural and socio-poliRcal history of the Ljubljana Town Hall, built in 1484. Since it is crucial to understand the historical circumstances that led to the need for a town hall, the history of the city of Ljubljana and the first locaRon of the town hall on the Tranča are briefly presented at the beginning. The thesis describes the development of the Town Square, where Rotovž was built at the end of the 15th century and where it sRll stands today. Moreover, the works of the architect Peter Bezlaj are presented, who is credited as the author of not only the Rotovž but also of three churches. The main focus of the research is the quesRon of the original appearance and layout of the late medieval Rotovž in relaRon to Valvasor's engraving from the Glory of the Duchy of Carniola. The aim of the thesis is to criRcally present the available literature that could be helpful for further research on the late medieval Rotovž.
