    Abstract

            | Secondary abstract: | Introduction: Anal incontinence is a condition that can develop as a result of age, injury or a long-term condition, and can be associated with significant stigma for those affected. Incontinence is a topic that may not be discussed openly enough by patients and healthcare professionals; therefore, it is important for nurses to be aware of its signs, symptoms, causes and risk factors in order to identify at-risk patients. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to present anal incontinence and nursing with the aim of investigating in more detail the forms of treatment available for incontinence. Methods: In the diploma thesis, a descriptive method of work was used, with a review of scientific and professional articles in Slovenian and English. A temporal literature search was performed using the electronic databases CINAHL, Medline/PubMed, Cobib.si and the DiKul digital library. Results: The primary goal of all forms of pelvic floor rehabilitation is to improve the strength, tone, endurance and coordination of the anal sphincter to achieve a positive change in function by reducing symptoms and problems. In the review of the literature, we noticed a greater emphasis on the training of the pelvic floor muscles and the use of electrostimulation in the treatment of anal incontinence. Discussion and conclusion: A larger raising awareness and education the public about anal incontinence and promotion of pelvic floor would be needed in all age groups and genders. |
