Abstract

Uvod: Število oseb s prekomerno telesno maso in debelostjo se povečuje, kar predstavlja veliki zdravstveni problem v svetu. Obstajajo različne smernice in načini prehranjevanja znižanja telesne mase. Metode: Izvedli smo pregled, analizo in sintezo literature v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL in ScienceDirect. S pomočjo PRISMA diagrama smo prikazali potek pregleda literature. Analizirane raziskave smo razvrstili v hierarhijo dokazov ter jih ocenili z ocenjevalnim orodjem Joanna Briggs Institute. Izvedli smo opisno sintezo.

Secondary title: The effects of a low-carbohydrate diet on weight loss
Secondary abstract: Introduction: The number of people who are overweight and obese is increasing, which represents a major health problem in the world. There are various guidelines and ways of eating to reduce body weight. Very popular is low-carb diet, which is based on micronutrient manipulation. We aimed to investigate the impact of a low-carbohydrate diet on weight loss by reviewing the literature. Methods: We performed a literature review, analysis and synthesis in the PubMed databases, CHINAL and ScienceDirect. With the help of PRISMA diagram, we showed the course of the literature review. We evaluated the analyzed research using the evaluation tool of the Joanna Briggs Institute and made descriptive synthesis. Results: We included 14 studies in the analysis, of which 7 were classified as level 1 and 7 as level 2 of the hierarchies of evidence. Half of the included studies (n = 7, 50 %) confirm that the low carbohydrate diet content leads to greater weight loss compared to others diets. In other studies (n = 7, 50 %), it has been found that weight loss with a low carbohydrates diet had similar results to other diets. Discussion and conclusion: We found that a low-carbohydrate diet has positive short-term effects on weight loss. There is not enough evidence to confirm long-term effectiveness, and further research is required.
