Abstract

Secondary title: Comparative animal idioms in selected subdialects of Prekmurje
Secondary abstract: In the master's thesis titled Comparative animal idoms in selected Prekmurje dialects, idioms are collected that have an animal name as one of their components. Animal idioms are collected in the Ravensko and Dolinsko regions, i.e., in the Prekmurje dialect of the Pannonian dialect group. In the theoretical part, the research focuses in Ravensko and Dolinsko, the regions from which the informants originate. Additionally, a phonetic outline of the local dialects included in the study is presented. The selection of dialect material is arranged alphabetically and compared with dictionary sources (Dictionary of the Slovenian Standard Language, Dictionary of Slovenian Phrasemes). The collected idioms are analysed and classified according to human characteristics and attributes. Findings indicate that attributes transferred to humans are mostly negative and that similar animal characteristics appear both in Dolinsko and Ravensko. The majority (more than two-thirds) of collected idioms are specific to the locality, meaning they are not recorded in the Dictionary of Slovenian Phrasemes or the Dictionary of the Slovenian Standard Language. Among animal species, pigs are the most commonly represented, while among individual animals, dogs most frequently appear, followed by chickens, calves, and bulls.
