Abstract

Razkrite so nekatere tehnike, s katerimi poskuša kvaziznanost zavajati laično in strokovno javnost.

Secondary title: Scientific and unscientific methods in forensic psychology
Secondary abstract: Forensic psychology is an interdisciplinary field concerned with researching and understanding the psychological aspects of the justice and police systems. As part of the assignment, the areas of its activity and its development are also highlighted and presented. The methods most commonly used in forensic psychology were explained in more detail: cognitive interviewing, polygraph, profiling, hypnosis, psychological autopsy and graphology. Many of them complain that they are not scientifically sound. This is about the distinction between science and ignorance. Many experiments from history prove how difficult it is to draw the dividing line. A uniform and universally valid definition of science, which would meet with broad acceptance, does not yet exist. Instead, the work concentrates on finding the most suitable criteria for making a distinction. They offer a broad and diverse view of science. Some of the techniques used by quasi-knowledge to mislead the lay and professional public have been uncovered. The methods of psychological forensics have been well researched and evaluated against established criteria and then categorized into a group of scientific or non-scientific methods. Weaknesses of the methods that have a significant impact on their credibility and suggestions for future improvements were presented. The aim of the assignment was to gain an insight into the public's knowledge of the field in question and their attitude towards the use of the methods mentioned. The survey included 236 respondents from Slovenia. The understanding of forensic psychology and its methods is good. It was found that the public overestimates which methods are scientific. A successful assessment was found in only one out of six cases. The results indicate that the use of less scientifically sound methods in forensic psychology is supported with certain limitations.
