Abstract

Velika (krompirjeva) lakota predstavlja enega najpomembnejših dogodkov v Irski v devetnajstem stoletju.

Secondary title: The great hunger: cultural and political changes in the second half of the 19th century
Secondary abstract: The great (potato) famine is one of the most influential events in Ireland within the Nineteenth century. The famine and the events following it had enormous effects on the Irish population, culture and political image of the island, alongside the fight for emancipation at the beginning of the century and the Land War in the seventies and eighties. Migration and death forced the agricultural and economic features of Ireland to change in finding new possible solutions to increase the chances of survival. These consequences of the famine may be felt to this day, especially within the demography, language, and culture of Ireland today.
