diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Varnost in policijsko delo
Abstract

Work overload of prison officers in Slovenia |
Secondary abstract: |
An organized working environment plays a key role in ensuring the health and satisfaction of employees. A worker who does not experience excessive pressure in his work environment and has adequate working conditions has a better chance of maintaining his psychophysical health and developing his work skills. This increases productivity and the quality of the work, which benefits both the individual and the entire organization. At the same time, an employee who does not have a regulated working environment and conditions can face various negative consequences, such as increased stress, burnout and poorer work results. In the diploma thesis, we focused on the problem of work overload of prison officers in Slovenia. The main goal of the thesis was to analyze the workload in the prison environment and find out its consequences for prison officers. The methods used in the final work include a review of both foreign and domestic literature related to the topic of burnout, stress, work overload and work in a prison environment. In addition, we also conducted a qualitative study in which we conducted semi-structured interviews with prison officers in Ljubljana prison. The analysis of the respondents' answers showed that prison officers often experience a high level of stress and burnout due to work overload and inadequate working conditions. They also highlighted some specific factors, such as staff shortages, increased number of foreign prisoners and extensive bureaucracy, which have emerged in recent years as an additional source of stress and strain. All of this has created a work environment where prison workers are unhappy and overworked. |
